For the final you will come in to class and roll two die. The two numbers that come up will be the two questions you write your essays over. If you roll a "6" then you can choose a question to answer. If you roll a double you will roll again until you get a different number. Finals will be taken on Wednesday, May 23 or Thursday, May 24 . Each essay will be worth 20 points for a total of 40 points. Essays will need to be done without notes BUT you can prepare for the final by completing the graphic organizers ahead of time. You will get 2 points of extra credit for each of the organizers you complete accurately, meaning you can get up to 10 points of extra credit. The organizers will need to be turned in before you begin taking the final. Questions1. Apply two of the five types of social interactions (cooperation, conflict, social exchange, coercion, and conformity) to explain the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib. Your answer needs to include at least one paragraph for each interaction you choose. 2. We have been studying the effects of socialization and agents of socialization within our society. Currently more than 61% of all United States preschool children are in day care (private homes or institutions) and the number is increasing. A number of studies have found that generally these preschool programs have a positive socializing influence on children, especially for children from less advantaged backgrounds. Using one paragraph defend, with at least three reasons, College Community’s free 4 year old preschool program and the efforts of the current administration to increase Early Childhood Education. In a second paragraph give another example of a program that could be used to help those that are not socialized well on their own. Be sure to explain your example thoroughly and support it with information from class. 3. Pick 2 of the cartoons about the conflict in Israel. Describe what is going on in the cartoon and explain how it relates to what you know about the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Your answer should include one paragraph for each cartoon and at least one piece of different information regarding to the conflict for each cartoon. 4. Describe how the power of groups can influence behavior. Be sure to include status, roles, and groupthink. In your explanation include a paragraph discussing two of the three experiments we watched in class (Miligram, Asch Conformity, and The Stanford Prison Experiment) and a paragraph covering an example from your own life or one that was discussed in class. 5. Explain how our loyalty to our norms and values leads to ethnocentrism. Your answer should include an explanation of how norms and values are taught and learned in a culture as well as an example of ethnocentrism .
