With a partner find four pictures to put in the left hand column below. These pictures need to be of a person. There can be only one personal picture. Once you have selected a picture for the column you need to figure out what the status is of the person in the photo; their master, achieved, and ascribed statuses. After that identify four different roles associated with that person’s status. Once this is completed put your names in the title of the Document plus roles and status. Parnter Name, Partner Name, Roles/Status. Turn in one copy each in your TIGS folders. Use the file below.

Instructions: During this collaboration you are not to speak at all! DURING THIS COLLABORATION YOU ARE NOT TO SPEAK AT ALL! You will be supplied with a subtle reminder for this. You are also not allowed to leave your seats. Once you have been assigned to a group figure out a way to communicate with each other. Once communication has been established begin to work on the assignment. There needs to evidence that there was a dialogue of a collaborative nature. Keep in mind that Mr. Folden (and Mr. DeVore) is going to need access to your work (it has to be turned digitally). You need to turn in one copy, and only one copy with all the names of the group members. You Can: Sit at your desk Work on your computer Work with your group You Can Not: Talk Move from your desk without permission (NO SPEAKING) Work alone Give up because it is hard This is meant to be a challenge. Everyone is going to struggle. This was created so that when you struggle you develop some skills to overcome that struggle. In your group you have two tasks to complete. 1. Find the definition to the terms provided. 2. Find a video or clip that bests displays the terms you have defined. Label each video. The video must be within what you turn in. If not, have a screenshot or a picture for each video. ALL VIDEOS MUST BE AGREED UPON BY THE WHOLE GROUP, NOT JUST A SINGLE MEMBER. Download the file below.
Use www.bubbl.us or any other method to create a flowchart that shows your understanding of socialization agents.
Make sure to include a definition of the agent and two specific examples of what each has taught you. Betty Topper, a 6 year old girl was taken to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital after authorities found her Tuesday chained to a bed post by what appeared to be a dog leash.
According to police, the girl's mother said Betty was tied to the bed for five years. The girl remains in fair condition and doctors continue to assess her developmental level. In class we have discussed the socialization process. We have also read examples of kids who were neglected and not socilialized until later in life. Using what you have learned about these kids describe in a paragraph how you think Betty will develop differently from her peers. Students are to make a collage that shows how they view themselves along with how others view them. There should be a clear distinction between an inner circle of how they see themselves as well as the outer set that illustrates how others view them. Develop a topic with well chosen examples appropriate to the audiences knowledge.
Use digital media to communicate learning in a legal and ethical manner. Example Paragraph: In class, we have talked about the "looking glass self" and made a collage to exemplify it. The looking glass self is how others view you and then how you take that and view yourself. Others view may view me as funny, fun to be around, wild, and caring. For my collage, I included pictures of me having fun. I also, included one of me being caring to my grandma. When others laugh at my jokes, it makes me think I'm funny. I view myself as funny, don't care what others think, outgoing, relaxed, and loving. Some pictures I included to demonstrate this were some of me and family, me and friends, and me having a good time. The "looking glass self" helps us view who we are. Goal -
For the final you will come in to class and roll two die. The two numbers that come up will be the two questions you write your essays over. If you roll a "6" then you can choose a question to answer. If you roll a double you will roll again until you get a different number. Finals will be taken on Wednesday, May 23 or Thursday, May 24 . Each essay will be worth 20 points for a total of 40 points. Essays will need to be done without notes BUT you can prepare for the final by completing the graphic organizers ahead of time. You will get 2 points of extra credit for each of the organizers you complete accurately, meaning you can get up to 10 points of extra credit. The organizers will need to be turned in before you begin taking the final. Questions1. Apply two of the five types of social interactions (cooperation, conflict, social exchange, coercion, and conformity) to explain the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib. Your answer needs to include at least one paragraph for each interaction you choose. 2. We have been studying the effects of socialization and agents of socialization within our society. Currently more than 61% of all United States preschool children are in day care (private homes or institutions) and the number is increasing. A number of studies have found that generally these preschool programs have a positive socializing influence on children, especially for children from less advantaged backgrounds. Using one paragraph defend, with at least three reasons, College Community’s free 4 year old preschool program and the efforts of the current administration to increase Early Childhood Education. In a second paragraph give another example of a program that could be used to help those that are not socialized well on their own. Be sure to explain your example thoroughly and support it with information from class. 3. Pick 2 of the cartoons about the conflict in Israel. Describe what is going on in the cartoon and explain how it relates to what you know about the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Your answer should include one paragraph for each cartoon and at least one piece of different information regarding to the conflict for each cartoon. 4. Describe how the power of groups can influence behavior. Be sure to include status, roles, and groupthink. In your explanation include a paragraph discussing two of the three experiments we watched in class (Miligram, Asch Conformity, and The Stanford Prison Experiment) and a paragraph covering an example from your own life or one that was discussed in class. 5. Explain how our loyalty to our norms and values leads to ethnocentrism. Your answer should include an explanation of how norms and values are taught and learned in a culture as well as an example of ethnocentrism .
